About Walt Lounsbery and His Section of
Lounsbery.com
The other parts of my section of this Website are for my other writing and personal
material. It is where I publish some of my software and technical writing.
I intend to move my blog from Microsoft Live Spaces to this Website soon.
Eventually there will be the
attendent RSS feed list (done!), favorite Internet Websites, music and book library lists,
which will allow me to find new material for my collections without fear of duplication
(so I can check my library inventory on the phone while I'm at the bookstore).
I like writing. I find it is a great way to organize your thoughts, and I've
been doing it ever since I taught myself how to type at the age of ten. OK,
I dimly remember how to use a pen and pencil. Somehow all that practice and
organization doesn't help me write a short paragraph about my eclectic life.
Here we go...
I grew up in Kansas City, Missouri. My sister, Jan, was two years older.
My parents were married to the end of their lives, although they verbally fought
on a regular basis when I was growing up. They also smoked, which taught me
to never pick up that habit. Although drugs were popular when I was a kid,
I didn't pick up that habit, either. I was a nerd in school and looked like
it. When I was in Junior High, my Dad and I were victims of a drunk driver
as we came home from the library. I stayed in the hospital overnight for observation.
My Dad's body was thoroughly broken and he was in various hospitals for about a
year. He stubbornly rehabilitated to be able to walk and refused a wheelchair
to the end. In college I looked more like a hippy than a nerd, but graduated
twice with aerospace degrees (Bachelors and Masters). I got married my Senior
year in college, which was a big mistake that lasted eight years. My Mom's
sister and Mother lived next door when I was growing up and then both passed away
while I was in College. My sister and I became close friends when I got out
of High School. Jan and her husband passed away in 1991. In 1994, after
a great career with three different aerospace companies, the industry layoff cycles
finally caught me. I switched careers to computer software and began programming
PCs for a living (a change from supercomputers, mainframes, UNIX workstations, and
minicomputers). My daughter was born four months after I was laid off from
Gulfstream Aerospace. Lisa consented to my marriage proposal and we had a
beautiful wedding in November, 2004. We recently moved from the Dallas, Texas
area to Knoxville, Tennessee. This is a great area with great people, fantastic
natural recreation, a super climate, and low cost of living. Y'all are welcome
to visit ;-)
That's it for the short bio. I didn't describe my interests in the bio because
this section of our Website is intended to support that. I've laid out areas
for my writing, a blog, downloads of my software, and so forth. I'll think
of more stuff as the section grows. It will be a reference area for me and
maybe of some use for you. Enjoy!
